The Department

The Department of History is the largest of its kind  in Sweden, located only ten minutes from Stockholm City centre. To be situated in the capital of Sweden provides great advantages since we benefit from access to major archives, museums and governmental agencies.

The University is situated in the middle of the first national city park in the world and is characterised by natural beauty, unique architecture and contemporary art and sculpture. About the University

Education

The Department offers a wide variety of introductory and advanced courses in history that will challenge any undergraduate or graduate student. We also contribute to the education of teachers in history.

Furthermore, we offer a second cycle course in archival science, the Cultural Studies Program, five programs in history in the first and second cycle, and a four-year PhD program in history.

Research

There are around 50 members of the staff engaged in teaching and research, and some 30 PhD students doing their scientific research studies. Research carried out at the department covers a wide range of topics.
